Photo Caption:
Lime Rock Light Station in Newport Harbor, probably about 1927. Note the unusual pennant flying from the mast. Rather than the early Burgee of the Ida Lewis Yacht Club (after 1927), this appears to be a U.S. Lighthouse Service pennant to which 23+ stars have been sewn on, possibly denoting additional rescues by Ida Lewis. We wonder if the pennant was done by the government as a tribute to Keeper Ida Lewis? Back to the edition of: Nov/Dec 2015
