Photo Caption:
Undated vintage photo of Avery Rock Lighthouse in Machias Bay in Maine. Sadly, all vestiges of Avery Rock Lighthouses are gone. After lighthouse keepers were removed from Avery Rock Lighthouse in 1934, the station was left to the elements. After a 1946 storm caused severe damage to the lighthouse, the Coast Guard dynamited the structure into oblivion. Back to the edition of: Sep/Oct 2015
