This vintage photo of Chambers Island Lighthouse shows that the shutters that were once on the lighthouse are no longer there. It may have been decided that they were really not needed and too time consuming to maintain. You will also notice that the drapes or curtains were drawn in the lantern windows to protect the lens and brass from the harmful rays of the sun. The structure is very similar to the nearby Eagle Bluff Lighthouse; the primary differences were in the actual shape of the tower. (Lighthouse Digest archives.) Back to the edition of: May/Jun 2015
