Photo Caption:

The 1905 St. Martin Island Lighthouse, shown here in its prime, was automated in 1980 and boarded up and left to the elements. Today the lighthouse property is owned Bureau of Indian Affairs (The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians) and the rest of the island is part of the Green Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The keeper’s house is now in poor condition and continues to deteriorate. (Lighthouse Digest archives)
