The New London Harbor Lighthouse, completed in 1801, was built to replace an earlier tower constructed in 1761. At 89-feet-tall, it is the tallest lighthouse in Connecticut. The lighthouse was automated in 1912 and the keeper’s house has been privately owned for nearly one hundred years. The tower, which underwent restoration in 2014, is owned by the New London Maritime Society. Because the area is surrounded by private property, the lighthouse is generally off-limits to the public.
