Tillamook Rock Lighthouse was in operation from 1881 to 1957. It sits on a rock less than an acre in size and a mile off-shore near Ecola State Park on the Oregon coast. Waves regularly wash over its 134’ height, especially during fierce winter storms. This led to its modern nickname of “Terrible Tilly” and was arguably the most difficult duty station on the Pacific Coast.
