When second assistant Orlo E. Hayward finally got to Cape Flattery Lighthouse on Tatoosh Island, he commented on how it was “only” seven miles to the “one-house” town of Neah Bay. Tatoosh at that time had a population of 30 between the radio station and lighthouse crews and families. Orlo remarked several times how he would never be lonesome there. (National Archives photo.)
