It is believed that Henrik Olsen was the first lighthouse keeper to ever own an automobile at Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse. In fact, in 1933 he drove his family from his previous light keeping job in Racine, Wisconsin to Mackinaw City, Michigan, a distance of 500 miles in the days before there were any super highways. Shown here in this wintertime photograph is a lighthouse keeper’s car, with piles of snow on each side of it, by the fog signal building at Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse.
