Notes:
The Ilhas Selvagens (Savage Islands), consisting of two groups of rocky islands, are located about halfway between Madeira Island and the Canary Islands; they form a protected bird sanctuary. The lighthouse on Selvagem Grande, formerly tended by two lightkeepers, is now automated.
