Barnegat Closes for Renovation
New Jersey’s 1857 Barnegat Lighthouse will be closed through October of this year as it undergoes a $1.3 million restoration. Work on the 167-foot-tall tower will include a complete exterior restoration, interior platform repairs, roof repairs, and the installation of new windows. New Book on Bolivar Point Light
A new hardcover book titled “The Bolivar Point Lighthouse – Reflections of the historic lighthouse from those who call this peninsula home,” is now available from most online book- sellers. Former newspaper photographer Russell Autrey teamed up with former newspaper reporter Denise Adams to publish the book.
Keweenaw Waterway Light Offered Again
Michigan’s Keweenaw Waterway Lower Entrance Lighthouse, also known as the Portage River Lower Entrance Lighthouse is being offered up for adoption again. For a while, it was in the hands of the Keweenaw Waterway Lighthouse Conservancy, which had hoped to raise money for its preservation, but those plans fell through. If no adoptee can be found to take over the lighthouse at no cost, under the National Lighthouse Preservation Act, the government will put the lighthouse up for auction to the highest bidder. Tilly For Sale
Several recent real estate listings and newspaper articles have announced that Oregon’s 1881 Tillamook Rock Lighthouse, off the coast of Seaside, Oregon, is for sale for $6.5 million. Additionally, the Facebook page of Mimi Morissette, who is a part owner of the lighthouse, stated she is offering part of her share of the lighthouse for sale: “I am selling 5% of Tillamook Rock from my private holdings (51%). Each percentage will cost $12,500.” The lighthouse is deteriorating quickly and is on the Lighthouse Digest Doomsday List of Endangered Lighthouses. For years, Morissette has had dreams of saving the lighthouse so that it can once again be licensed as a columbarium. The former license was revoked in 1999. Mayport Group Reformed
It has been announced that Florida’s Mayport Lighthouse Association has been reformed and they have started a Facebook page to recruit new members for the St. John’s River Lighthouse. The 1859 lighthouse, sometimes referred to as the Mayport Lighthouse, is not to be confused with the art deco St. John’s Lighthouse that is located nearby. (Photo by Martha B. Wilson)

Sweet Dreams
Lighthouse Digest subscriber Jan Schweikert finished this hand-made quilt this past February and recently shared this photo with us. If you look closely, you will notice that it features actual lighthouses from around the nation on the entire quilt. We are positive that one could have sweet dreams of lighthouse life sleeping under this quilt.
$5.9 Million for Oswego
New York Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand recently announced that they’ve secured $5.9 million for repairs on Oswego, New York’s, Oswego West Arrowhead Breakwater and the Oswego West Pierhead Lighthouse as part of the bipartisan omnibus spending package for Fiscal Year 2022.
New Address for Head Harbour and Muholland Lights?
An editorial in the March 19-20 edition of Maine’s Bangor Daily News has suggested that Canada’s Campobello Island, on the border of Maine, be swapped with for the island community of Point Roberts, Washington in the United States. The editorial made quite a bit of sense in many regards, but it is doubtful that anything will ever come of it. But, then again, who knows. However, it sure would make it easier for Americans to visit Mulholland Lighthouse and Head Harbour Lighthouse, one of the most complete picturesque light stations in North America. Thirty-Two Years Ago
It’s hard to believe that it has been 32 years since the “Great American Lighthouse” postage stamps were issued by the United States Postal Service. The five 25-cent postage stamps in the series were: Admiralty Head Lighthouse, Washington; Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, North Carolina; American Shoal Lighthouse, Florida; Sandy Hook Lighthouse, New Jersey; and West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Maine, which is shown here on a “First Day of Issue” stamped envelope. Interestingly, and making this envelope a unique collectible, the envelope also carried a 29-cent Sandy Hook Lighthouse postage stamp that had been issued 44 years ago, on April 14, 1978, as part of the “Americana Series” of postage stamps.
