Bean Rock Lighthouse in Auckland, New Zealand has turned 150 years old this year. First lit on July 24, 1871, it still sits in its original location at the end of a reef in the Waitemata Harbor, atop Kapetawa’s Rock. It is the oldest wooden lighthouse and the only wave-washed tower still standing in New Zealand.
In 1985, the entire cottage with its four tiny rooms and narrow hexagonal veranda were removed for restoration work. At that time the rotted legs were also replaced by Australian hardwood.
