Kenneth E. Jarvis (May 5, 1903 – July 15, 1991) worked for the U.S. Coast Guard as a civilian employee out of the carpenter shop in South Portland, Maine from the 1940s until he retired in 1963. His work took him to various projects at many lighthouses, and over the years he took a number of photos, including the ones of the burning of the keeper’s house at Nash Island Lighthouse, as published in the story beginning on page 60 in this issue. All of his photos are now of important historical significance. He is shown here with the dog that was the mascot of the Coast Guard workboat CG 80004, which Kenneth Jarvis travelled on to most of his off-shore lighthouse assignments. We thank his grandson Wayne Jarvis for sharing his photos with us, some of which are published throughout this edition, and are now saved for future generations in helping to preserve the history of some of our historic lighthouses.
