Retired Coast Guardsman Peter Brunk took advantage of a dead tree trunk near his dock and painted it to resemble North Carolina’s Bodie Island Lighthouse. The tree trunk lighthouse even has a beacon on top that flashes 15 times per minute and puts out as much power as a 200 mm acetylene lantern of the type that he worked on many years ago.
During his Coast Guard career Peter Brunk served eight different times on buoy tenders and in 1970 he relieved Bob Morong as the skipper of the Nantucket Lightship. He retired from the Coast Guard in 1980.
