Scottish Lighthouse Pioneers

Travels With The Stevensons in Orkney and Shetland

In the 19th century, the Stevenson engineers pioneered a marvelous set of lighthouses around the coast of Scotland. These same lighthouses inspire today’s visitors and lighthouse buffs from around the world with their architectural elegance. Although much has been previously written about the Stevenson family and their engineering achievements, much has remained a mystery, until now. Fortunately, two of Scotland’s most celebrated literary sons witnessed Stevens lighthouse engineering first hand. Much of this book is devoted to their first hand reminiscences.

Written by Paul A. Lynn and published by Whittles Publishing, this soft cover book with 118 glossy pages is packed with amazing history, great color, and historic photos with a very informative text. We highly recommend this book to anyone interested in lighthouses or maritime history. Unfortunately, it is not available from Lighthouse Digest, but is available through many online sites.
