If you were one of the estimated 400,000 people who visited Oregon’s Yaquina Head Lighthouse in 2006, or recall the 2006 Lighthouse Digest story with photos of scaffolding and the wraps around the lighthouse tower, it might have seemed like deja vu if you visited the lighthouse this past November and December.

Scaffolding goes up at Yaquina Head Lighthouse in ...

As with all properties, especially historic lighthouses, maintenance and painting are something that needs to be done on an on-going basis. This current project consisted of stripping the paint off of the tower that had not provided enough breathability to the brick structure to keep it weathering safely and then repainting it. Also, the preservation of the ironwork coatings of the tower was also worked on. It was estimated that the work would be fully completed by the time that this issue of Lighthouse Digest would go to print.
