The new Hope Light in Metropolis, Illinois is now in place. This is the world’s first lighthouse that was exclusively designed for and built for use in the fight against cancer. Although the lighthouse is located on the Ohio River, it is not an actual aid to navigation; however it is an aid to the navigation of awareness and hope in the battle against the Cancer, a battle that this lighthouse may see as a victory because of its installation.

Although the lighthouse was constructed to draw awareness to the battle against all types of cancer, its teal day-mark band represents the fight against ovarian cancer. The black lantern room represents the dark journey that cancer patients experience and white light represents the guiding light to point the way to calm waters in a safe harbor with Hope for survival and Hope for a cure for cancer.
