This is the fourth volume in a series of books by Jim Claflin of the Images of America series of books from Arcadia Publishing. For those of you who are familiar Jim Claflin’s column “Collecting Nautical Antiques” that appears in every edition of Lighthouse Digest you will know his unique knack for locating rare photographs of lighthouse and life-saving history. Because of its shifting sands and its immense amount of early maritime traffic, other than perhaps the Outer Banks, Cape Cod may have a more diverse early maritime history than any other coastline area of the United States. When it comes to Cape Cod, many lighthouse and life-saving stations have been lost or moved and look dramatically different today; the memories of them only survive in such photographs as appear in this book.

This compact volume features over 200 early photographs dating from the 1870s through the 1960s that have been drawn from the author’s and other private collections, most never before published with informative text for each photo that will captivate you the minute you start turning the pages.

Lighthouses and Life-Saving Stations Along Cape Cod by Jim Claflin is a soft cover book with 128 pages and over 200 historic images. It is available as item #2156 for $21.99 plus shipping from Lighthouse Digest, P.O. Box 250, East Machias, ME 04630, on-line at www.LighthouseDigest.com or by calling 207-259-2121.
