New Brunswick Canada’s Fish Fluke Point Lighthouse is no more. The once endangered lighthouse collapsed into a pile of rubble in a wind storm this past November.

A number of years ago, last ditch efforts were made to try and save the structure that is also known as the Grand Harbour Lighthouse. However, those efforts were curtailed when the private owner of Ross Island near Grand Manan Island, where the lighthouse rested, prohibited people from working on the then barely standing structure because of liability concerns. However, the owner has now given permission to the Grand Manan Museum to rescue the lantern room and bring it to the museum grounds. The museum plans to raise funds to restore the lantern room for display.

Built in 1879, the lighthouse was discontinued in 1963.It was once called the Most Endangered Lighthouse in North America, a phrase that no longer applies.

Editor’s Note: If the museum is going to save the lantern room they will need donations to help this. This is a worthy cause that we would encourage our readers, if they can, to donate to. Please remember that mail to Canada requires additional postage. Donations can be sent to the Grand Manan Museum, 1143 Route 776, Grand Manan, NB, Canada E5G 4E9.
