According to officials, about 65 percent of the 6,000 pound lantern room is original and the restoration and reconstruction took a year to complete.

The actual tower rebuilding will be as close to the original as possible. However, the original lighthouse was solid brick, and the rebuilt tower will have a steel reinforcement layer sandwiched between the inside and outside brick.

The restored lantern room of Round Island Lighthouse in Pascagoula, Mississippi is shown here being delivered to the site where the lighthouse is being rebuilt. The remains of the original lighthouse tower, which had been moved here in 2010 from its original location, can be seen behind the truck.

It is estimated that $100,000 of the $1 million restoration cost still needs to be raised.
