Happy Anniversary Lighthouse Digest,

I knew the May-June issue would be special, but I was blown away by the story “Curb Side Beacons.” When I was a young girl, I dreamed of a lighthouse playhouse like the Cairo, Kansas gas station. Now I know why.

I grew up in Binghamton, NY. Those Sunday drives with my parents and Aunt Millie all over the southern tier must have taken us rolling past some of those lighthouse gas stations. I do remember the one in Endicott, NY.

In my collection is a real photo of one in Waverly, New York, although the image is very dark and has a hard to read caption. I have many chrome style cards with recent stations plus a color-linen card from Henryville, Pennsylvania.

Thanks for the articles and best wishes for the good work you have done and do for lighthouse preservation. I’ve also enclosed my check for the new book, “From Guiding Lights to Beacons for Business”

Dear Mr. Harrison & Crew,

You are all to be commended for the publication of a fine magazine!

My work schedule as a United States Coast Guard licensed engineer, has allowed me to arrive home to find two issues waiting. After picking up the mail and finding Lighthouse Digest, I head home, and regardless of projects at hand, brew a pot of coffee, and perouse your excellent publication.

I find your material very fascinating and read Lighthouse Digest from cover to cover before adding it to my collection. My strong interest is not only connected via my job, but my Dad served as a relief keeper at Bear Island Lighthouse, Northeast Harbor, Maine during World War II. I still remember the fun days we had visiting the light years later and before the sickness of terrorism invaded this country. The excitement of climbing the tower and even on occasion helping to wind the fog bell weights are memories from childhood.

The article about Rusty’s Pizza also shows that you are not alone in your tireless work to preserve and spread the word of America’s lighthouses. May you and your crew continue your excellent work for many years to come. Thank you.
