Lower Traverse Lighthouse.

The photograph of the Upper Traverse Lighthouse, sent to us by Ruth Bowes, was taken by LeRoy T. Bowes when he was working for the Canadian Hydrographic Survey from 1920 to 1924. He wrote on the back of the photo, “This is the main ship channel and is one of our most prominent marks for ‘fixing’ at full ebb. There is a current of about 8 miles an hour here.” The photo of the Lower Traverse Lighthouse is from the archives of the Canadian Coast Guard.

Information about these lighthouses seems to be elusive and lost in the pages of time. Naturally, we’d like to learn more about these lighthouses and the lives of the lighthouse keepers who lived at them so that their stories, memories and photographs can be preserved for future generations. If any of our readers can help us please e-mail Editor@LighthouseDigest.com or write to us at Lighthouse Digest, P.O. Box 250, East Machias, ME 04630.
