Thanks to some help from Lighthouse Digest subscriber Michel Forand, Mystery Light 103 that was featured in the October 2010 edition of Lighthouse Digest has been identified as a structure that once stood on Roosevelt Highway in Santa Monica, California.
Unfortunately, the structure is not a real lighthouse. The main clue was the lantern room, which does not resemble a typical lantern room used in a real lighthouse. In doing further research, additional photographs of the structure were located. In examining the photos more clearly we found that the structure was a multi-use building. A sign above one of the entrances said Bath House, which was probably for use by the beach goers. One area was an outside take-out food area for use by people at the round umbrella covered picnic tables. Another entrance indicates there was a restaurant with word Lighthouse in its name, but the other words can not be read from the angle that the photographs were taken.
However, nothing can diminish the fact that this was a beautiful lighthouse facsmilie that would surely still be a popular tourist attraction if it were still standing today. Also, if were still standing today, it would most likely be listed historic landmark of some type.
We can only wonder what type of events took place here, such as first dates, family get-togethers or just being a place to stop for a break from driving along the beautiful coastal California highway along the Pacific Ocean. If we only had a time machine.
