During the recent Annual Family Day at the Door County Maritime Museum and Lighthouse Preservation Society in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, in cooperation with the Door County Family Center, the museum offered a variety of activities to entertain the younger museum visitors.
The balloon creations of local clown celebrity Fred Wittig and his wife Dawn are always a highlight. At the past Family Day celebration, Fred and Dawn created a balloon lighthouse.
The first photo shows Fred entertaining young visitors while Dawn works on the lighthouse construction. The second photo shows Dawn working on the tower. The third photo shows the finished product complete with working balloon lantern room with a light characteristic of a fixed yellow beam.
The balloon lighthouse was obviously a big hit as it stood watch over the Peterson Gallery until, sadly, the light succumbed to the ravages of deflation. (Photographs courtesy of Bob Desh, Door County Maritime Museum & Lighthouse Preservation Society.)
