Officials now believe that the $500,000 in funding recently received to restore Canada’s 150-year-old Point Clark Lighthouse will not be enough.

It seems the tower is literally crumbling and the recent engineering report was much worse than expected.

Lighthouse Digest first reported on the condition of the lighthouse in our August 2008 issue. The tower is now closed to the public.

One of the six “Imperial Towers” the historic beacon is located in Kincardine, Ontario on the western shores of Lake Huron.

This story appeared in the October 2010 edition of Lighthouse Digest Magazine. The print edition contains more stories than our internet edition, and each story generally contains more photographs - often many more - in the print edition.
