The City of Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin, with its rich maritime history, recently honored Rear Admiral Peter V. Neffenger, past Commander of the U.S. Coast Guards Ninth Coast Guard District by naming a day after him. The proclamations, signed by Sturgeon Bay Mayor Thad Birmingham and Door County Board Chairman Leo Zipperer were presented to the Admiral by Bob Desh, chairman of the Door County Maritime Museum and Lighthouse Preservation Society.

The Ninth Coast Guard District, headquartered in Cleveland is responsible for all Coast Guard operations on the five Great Lakes. Door County is home to numerous historic lighthouses and the Door County Maritime Museum which hosts the annual Door County Lighthouse Festival, which also welcomes and encourages you to visit them this summer and fall.
