Shown here are the old and the new towers of the Fuencaliente Lighthouse on the southern tip of La Palma Island in the Canary Islands of Spain.
Although the new tower is quite impressive, it lacks the distinguished appearance of the old tower. The land around the lighthouse station is all black lava, the result of many past volcanic eruptions from the volcano that is only a few miles away.
The old lighthouse buildings now house a museum.
