“This is a major accomplishment that other remote lighthouses that don’t have electricity can emulate,” said Jim Walker, president of the Cape Cod Chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation, who led the movement to make Race Point Lighthouse the first totally “green” light station in the nation.

The new 2.5kw wind turbine operates in conjunction with the solar panels that also generates energy providing a complete and environmentally friendly way to produce electricity. Even the back up generator at Race Point Lighthouse uses bio-diesel fuel. The many volunteers who made this possible are to be highly congratulated.

Race Point Lighthouse is also available for overnight stays. To learn more you can visit their website at www.RacePointLighthouse.net or contact them at Race Point Lighthouse, Chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation, P.O. Box 570, Truro, MA 02652, or call (508) 487-9930.
