Although the crew of the lighthouse buoy tender in 1944 knew they'd be no match against a torpedo fired from a German sub, they did have small arms to protect themselves against a boarding party, or to capture enemy saboteurs trying to enter the country, and the weapons were always well oiled and cleaned.
