Photo Caption:

This photo from the deck of the Olympic shows the lifeboat as it is being raised to the deck. Sitting in the left front of the boat is George Braithwaite, captain of Nantucket Lightship LV 117. The photo was taken by famed Hungarian photographer Martin Munkacsi who was on board the Olympic on his way to the United States while fleeing Nazi Germany. He is most famous for his photographs of the fateful Day of Postdam, when on March 21, 1933, the aged President of Germany, Paul von Hindenburg, handed Germany over to Adolph Hitler.
