Photo Caption:

This clear image shows a Life-Saving crew in their sharp white uniforms in one of their life saving boats. The man in the dark uniform would have been the station’s head keeper. Sitting behind the head keeper was a young boy, most likely the keeper’s son. How proud this young man must have been to pose with his father, the head keeper, and the station’s crew. Later images of this photo listed the men as “Cape Cod Life Saving Crew,” but from which life-saving station on Cape Cod? There were a number of them. What were their names? Were where they all from? What kind of lives did they lead? Were they involved in any daring rescues? Were they married? What did they do before or after they were surf-men for the Life-Saving Service? The answers to all these questions may be tucked away in some attic or the files of some library or historical society, but more than likely the answers will never be found.
