Photo Caption:

The current modern optic in Whaleback Lighthouse is cold looking, almost with no heart, compared to the previous lenses that were once in the tower. Even its flash at night seems cold. Gone is the romance of the beacon of yesteryear. The Fresnel lens that was originally in the tower is now in the possession of the Peabody-Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts.
