Smith Island Lighthouse where Ray Edgar Dunson served as an assistant keeper under his father Joseph Dunson. It was here that Ray Dunson first lived with his wife Katie who left the farmland of Nebraska to live on the ocean as a lighthouse keeper’s wife. Built in 1858 near Port Townsend, Washington, the Smith Island Lighthouse was deactivated in 1957 and eventually succumbed to erosion. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
