In 1928 the Devils Island Lighthouse Station was visited by Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President of the United States. After having lunch, the President received a tour of the lighthouse grounds by lighthouse keeper Hans Christensen. Before leaving, President Coolidge signed the station’s log book. President Coolidge can be seen here to the left, sitting at the head of the long picnic table that was set up on the rock ledge at Devils Island. (Photo courtesy Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.)
