Peter Lambert served at Port Isabel Lighthouse from 1896 to 1899 before he went on to become the head keeper at the Battery Gladden Lighthouse in Mobile Bay, Alabama, where he served until 1912 when he died. Interestingly, while at Battery Gladden, his wife, Isabel, and his son, Theodore, served as assistant keepers under him at two different times. In 1952, at the time of the rededication of the lighthouse for its 100th birthday, Peter’s wife, Isabel, then 80 years old, was the only surviving widow of a Port Isabel Lighthouse keeper. If Peter Lambert were alive today, he would be honored to see the lighthouse restored once again and updated with a lens like the one he used to care for. (Courtesy Ernestine Grace)
