Photo Caption:

In 1918 the Delaware Breakwater Range Front Lighthouse was discontinued and in 1921 it dismantled and taken down and shipped to Boca Grande, Florida where, as shown here, it became the Gasparilla Range Rear Lighthouse and was also known as the Boca Grande Range Rear Lighthouse. Today it is known as the Gasparilla Island Lighthouse. At its new home in Florida, the former Delaware beacon did not have a keeper’s house, but was instead served by the lighthouse keeper from the nearby Boca Grande Lighthouse. Photographs of the tower when it stood in Delaware have been elusive, as have been photos of when it was disassembled in Delaware and reassembled in Florida. If any of our readers can help us locate photos we would appreciate hearing from you. (Photograph Robert J. Lewis collection, Lighthouse Digest archives.)
