In the 1958 book, Galloo Island, A Short History, author Margaret Baker wrote that Zenas Hastings, a veteran of the War of 1812, who served as the first keeper of the Galloo Island Lighthouse from 1820 to 1837, was buried on the island in an unmarked grave.
