Columbia River Maritime Museum Director of Education, Nate Sandel, gave a brief history of Tillamook Rock Lighthouse and was co-chairman of the event. Nate was responsible for enlarging the photo of Gerlof on display. It was well-known that Robert Gerlof intensely disliked having his photo taken, and when Nate walked past the enlargement toward the microphone, a big “gust” of wind blew the picture and easel onto him, which was seen by everyone humorously as Gerlof making his presence known! The photo remained still throughout the rest of the ceremony.
