This photo, taken in January of 1913, shows tourists, who were brought to the Old Point Loma Lighthouse by tour buses, crowding themselves on the outer lantern deck of the abandoned Old Point Loma Lighthouse for the magnificent view of San Diego Harbor.
At a height of 462 feet, the Old Point Loma Lighthouse was the highest lighthouse above water in the United States. The lighthouse was discontinued primarily because it was often obscured by clouds. It was replaced by the New Point Loma Lighthouse that was built closer to the shoreline. (Photo courtesy Mary Corporon.)
