Lee Radzak is shown here in 2011 with Shamus, a yellow lab who was the Split Rock Lighthouse mascot from 2007 until December, 2018 when he passed away. The Radzak family had three Golden Retrievers before Shamus came to them as a puppy. Lee recalled that he was the best of the dogs saying, “For the most part he would ignore or just go and say hello to the people visiting the lighthouse. I taught him to pretty much ignore the deer and the ruffled grouse that came in our yard, but he wasn’t too tolerant of the black bears.” (Courtesy Minnesota Historical Society.)
