Walter Lawrence was in the U.S. Lighthouse Service for five years total, stationed at Tillamook Rock and then Umpqua River Lights. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed experimenting with many techniques. He was also musically talented, playing harmonica on a variety radio show later in his life in Portland, OR.
