Mary Island Lighthouse Station in Alaska as it appeared from the water in 1946. The station is located approximately 22 miles south of Ketchikan. Built in 1937 to replace an earlier lighthouse at the site, the station was automated in 1969 and its lighthouse keepers were removed. Only the lighthouse tower remains today. All the other buildings have been destroyed or moved off the island. Plans to operate the lighthouse as a bed and breakfast were never able to materialize.
