Photo Caption:

The Racine Reef Lighthouse begins to take shape during construction on a cold day in December 1905. If you look closely you will see ice on the railing around the lower platform. Construction workers obviously stopped working to pose for this photograph and one man is sitting precariously at the very top of the structure. There were no safety harnesses in those days. Interestingly, there is a woman in a long dress standing on the deck next to a man who is holding some of type of tool. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
